Karen Totton earned a Diploma in Massage Therapy with Honors from the 2200-hour program at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage (ACTM) in Fredericton, N.B. She also received a Certificate in Sports Massage for having completed 100 hours of clinical internship in sports massage. She is a member of Association of New Brunswick Massage Therapists and the Women & Business Network.
Along with her massage therapy practice, Karen is a Corporate Clinic and Outreach Supervisor for ACTM. Her love of learning has led her to become a tutor in Biology and Anatomy for massage therapy students.
Karen has a strong interest in alternative healthcare research and her literature review (“Massage Therapy as an Effective Intervention for Agitation in Elderly Persons with Dementia") was published in the Journal of Soft Tissue Manipulation. She was the first student at ACTM to have an article published in an academic journal during their junior year of the program.
Karen has always enjoyed working in the healthcare field. Prior to her massage therapy training, she earned a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Gerontology and Psychology from St. Thomas University. She then went on to complete a Diploma in Human Services Counselling with Honors from the Nova Scotia Community College. Following her studies, Karen accepted a position with the New Brunswick Department of Health and Wellness in the Community Mental Health Services division where she worked in Geriatrics as a Human Services Counsellor.
Karen is passionate about massage therapy. She strives to provide client-focused, safe and effective treatments in a relaxing atmosphere for her clients.
