Relaxation Massage is a flowing style of massage using moderate to deep techniques to promote circulation, mental and physical relaxation, pain relief, and overall health maintenance and well-being. Full body treatments are common and allow for a complete relaxation experience.
Therapeutic massage is the manual manipulation of the soft tissues and joints of the body to
achieve specific goals. Deeper massage techniques decrease tension by lengthening muscle tissue,
tendons and ligaments and increase joint mobility. Active or passive movement of the joints and
trigger point work may also be part of the massage.
Pregnancy, or prenatal, massage is the use of gentle techniques to reduce some of the discomforts
associated with pregnancy. These include back and neck pain, sleeping difficulties, swelling, and
sciatic pain. Pregnancy massage can help reduce stress while improving circulation and relaxation.
Breast massage is the focused treatment of the breasts light using techniques to increase circulation
and promote drainage. Similar to other parts of the body, breasts need good circulation and tissue
mobilization for optimum health. Breast massage is recommended when there is congestion, swelling or
pain resulting from a variety of conditions. Some of these include pregnancy/breastfeeding,
surgery/diagnostic procedures, surgical scars, or discomfort related to cancer treatment.
Geriatric massage is aimed at meeting the specific needs of the elderly population. Some common age-related
conditions treated by massage include arthritis symptom relief, chronic pain, poor blood and lymph circulation,
and reduced range of motion of joints. Geriatric massage uses gentle techniques and joint movements to help
relieve pain, increase circulation, and maintain overall health and well-being.
Scar massage is the focused treatment of scars and scar tissue. Scar massage promotes collagen remodeling,
decreases pain, and reduces itching. Keeping the scar soft and flexible helps maintain the mobility of any
affected joints, muscles, and tendons. Hot paraffin wax is often used in the treatment of scars.
Hydrotherapy is the use of water during a massage in the form of heat or cold. It can be used on a specific
area or over the entire body. A common hydrotherapy application during a massage can be a hot pack or an ice
pack.
Paraffin wax treatment is a deep heat technique. Layers of warm melted wax can be used to soothe stiff joints,
soften scars, ease tight muscles, or simply enhance relaxation. Small areas, such as the hands or feet, are dipped
in the wax before being wrapped. Other areas, such as scars or elbows, are treated by applying wax with a cloth or
brush.
